New Version 8.1 Wire Manual Coming Soon
We are pleased to announce that the Mastercam Version 8.1 Wire Tutorial will soon be available in PDF and in
print. This tutorial is a series of exercises designed to get users new to Mastercam and Version 8.1 Wire up
and running quickly. In it, you'll find practical exercises that show a wide variety of Mastercam Version 8.1
Wire's capabilities using real parts. Some of the demonstrated tasks include:
- Programming each of the major wirepath types: contour, no core (pocket), 4-axis, and 5-axis
- Programming a die containing multiple small contours quickly and efficiently
- Creating multiple tabs on a single contour wirepath
- Programming an open contour wirepath
- Optimizing a no core (pocket) wirepath to automatically eliminate slivers
- Simultating cutting parts before committing stock and machine time by using the new verify application
- Modifying geometry and completed wirepaths to take advantage of Mastercam's associativity feature to reduce or eliminate reprogramming
- Using the Backplot feature to examine each wirepath in detail
- Filtering wirepaths to shorten the NC program
- Modifying the power settings library
The tutorial also contains a Mastercam glossary and a list of Mastercam shortcut keys for easy reference.
The printed tutorial will be back-shipped directly to all customers who have puchased Wire Version 8.1. A
small (61 KB) ZIP file of the part files used in the tutorial must be downloaded. A self-extracting ZIP
file containing a PDF of the tutorial can be obtained from your Mastercam dealer. As always, we appreciate
your comments and suggestions.

New Layout Utility For Solids 8.1
A great new tool for Solids users is now available as a C-Hook. This Layout utility enables you to create
drawing layouts of Solids for dimensioning. Through a simple interface, you can select any Solid in your
part and create multiple view layouts. You have complete control over what views are used, their placement
alignment, rotation angle and scale, and the paper size they are created for. The ability to create cross
sections and blown up detail views makes it easy to communicate your design intent to those who are going
to manufacture it. The Layout utility is free of charge to all Mastercam Solids users and only runs in
version 8.1. Download the Layout zip file and copy it to your Mastercam 8.1 C-Hooks directory. Then just
double-click Layout.exe and unzip it into the C-Hooks directory. If you want to launch Layout from the
toolbar copy Layout.bmp to the Mcam8\common\icons directory so an icon will be visible to launch it.

Automatic Stock Recognition in Lathe V 8.1
Lathe V8.1 incorporates a powerful new stock recognition feature. Each operation will review any prior operations and generate a toolpath only for the actual as-cut stock that is left. For example, if you center-drill then face a part, Lathe will only create a facing operation for the area left after the drill cycle is complete. This creates highly efficient toolpaths, and helps eliminate the guesswork of what stock is left on your part.
Mastercam Lathe's Stock Recognition has additional benefits as well. If you reorder any operations, Lathe will regenerate all the associated stock boundaries and toolpaths. You no longer need to chain the outer boundary when roughing a casting or making a grooving toolpath on geometry which has been chained. You no longer need to chain the outer boundary when roughing a casting or making a grooving toolpath on geometry which has been chained.
Greater Stock Control Lathe
V8.1's new Adjust Stock feature gives greater control over where your stock starts and stops. For example, if you have a contour with a face that ends before a centerline, you are able to use the "adjust stock" buttons to complete the face without creating additional geometry. By giving you the ability to quickly adjust the stock to a desired shape, Mastercam Lathe gives you total control over tool motion while cutting.

New Verification In Mill V8.1
Have you ever wanted to save the verification results of a specific toolpath? Now you can! Mastercam Mill V8.1 can now save the results of a verification session, letting you open it later and verify another toolpath using the original result. This is especially useful in complex parts where you want to pay close attention to how the finish pass interacts with as-cut rough stock. It also helps save time, because you don't have to re-run a roughing toolpath every time you want to see the results of a finish toolpath.
Mastercam will save and open your sessions as STL files. You can also use any other file with STL triangles, surfaces or solids (IGES, X_T, MC8, etc.) as a your initial stock. This lets you use any shape as your verification stock - perfect for verifying castings or other odd-shaped parts.

Network Licensing Now Available
With the release of Version 8.1, Mastercam now offers a network licensing option. This means that a group of
Mastercam users who are all connected to the same network can run licensed copies of Mastercam from any station
on that network where Mastercam is loaded. This eliminates the hassles of carrying the protection device from
computer to computer, risking losing or breaking it.
Instead of requiring one HASP on each computer that will be used to run Mastercam, one NetHASP will be installed
on any station on the network. That station will be referred to as the NetHASP server. It is not necessarily
the network server - in fact, it's preferable not to use the network server as the NetHASP server. NetHASP
comes with a utility that gives all users on the network the ability to view how many license copies of Mastercam
are currently available from the total number of licenses purchased.
Although NetHASP supports most networks, we have only tested it with Windows 32-bit operating systems. The IPX,
TCP/IP and NetBIOS network communications protocols are supported.

New C-Hook Available
Rapid reverse engineering software was developed as a solution to create watertight manufacturable
NURBS surfaces and CAD models from point cloud data for Mastercam users. There has never been a
good, easy to use solution to generate machinable models from a random cloud of points. For years
manufacturers have been able to gather point data from CMM's, scanners, lasers, probes, etc. but
have never had a good way to use this data to model or machine with. The existing methods have
always been very TEDIOUS and LIMITED IN CAPABILITY. RevQuick finally solves this problem by providing
the first affordable solution for Mastercam users that REALLY WORKS! Visit
www.revquick.com for more information. Sold through Mastercam Dealers.
